コードトーンとは何か？What Are Chord Tones?

コードトーン（分散和音）とは、コードを構成する音を一音ずつ順番に弾いたもの、いわゆるアルペジオです。Cメジャーセブンス（CΔ7）ならC・E・G・Bの4音が該当します。ジャズのアドリブにおいて、スケールの音を上から下にただなぞるだけでは「音楽」になりません。コードが変わるたびにコードトーンを的確に捉えることで、その瞬間の和声に根ざしたメロディが生まれます。ロックで使い慣れたペンタトニックが「縦の動き」だとすれば、コードトーンは「コード変化という横の流れに乗る」感覚です。Chord tones are the notes of a chord played one at a time — an arpeggio. For CΔ7, the chord tones are C, E, G, and B. Simply running up and down a scale doesn't create music in jazz improvisation. By accurately targeting chord tones as the chords change, you create melodies rooted in the harmony of each moment. If pentatonics are 'vertical movement', chord tones are about 'riding the horizontal flow of chord changes'.

まず取り組むべきは「コードトーンの可視化」です。CΔ7のアルペジオ（C-E-G-B）をひとつのポジションに縛られず、フレットボード全体でどこにでも見つけられるようにしましょう。5弦3フレットのCから始まり、4弦2フレットのE、3弦5フレットのG、2弦4フレットのBへと上昇するのが一形態。それ以外にも複数のポジションでこの4音を把握することが目標です。The first step is to 'visualize chord tones'. Learn to find the CΔ7 arpeggio (C-E-G-B) anywhere on the fretboard, not locked into one position. One shape starts at C (5th string, 3rd fret), moves to E (4th string, 2nd fret), G (3rd string, 5th fret), and B (2nd string, 4th fret). The goal is to know these four notes in multiple positions across the neck.

効果的な練習として「コードトーン・オンリー・インプロビゼーション」をおすすめします。バックトラックをかけながら、スケールの音を一切使わず、コードトーンだけでアドリブしてみましょう。最初は音の選択肢が少なくて窮屈に感じるかもしれません。しかしすぐに「コードに乗った音の確かさ」を実感できます。選んだ音が必ず正解に聞こえる、その手応えこそがコードトーン練習の醍醐味です。An effective exercise is 'chord-tone-only improvisation'. Play a backing track and improvise using only chord tones, zero scale notes. It may feel restrictive at first. But you'll quickly feel the 'certainty of notes that sit on the chord'. Every note you choose will sound right — that confidence is the reward of chord tone practice.

II–V–I 進行でコードトーンを繋ぐConnecting Chord Tones Through II–V–I

ジャズの基本進行 II–V–I（Dm7→G7→CΔ7）を使って、コードトーンを滑らかに繋ぐ練習をしましょう。Dm7のコードトーン（D・F・A・C）からG7（G・B・D・F）へ。コードが変わる瞬間、隣の音へ半音か全音で動くことを選ぶだけで、それだけでジャズらしいラインが生まれます。この練習を積み重ねると、ガイドトーン・ラインや高度なテンション活用の土台が自然に出来上がります。スケール暗記が不要なのではなく、「まずコードトーンありき」という優先順位の整理こそが、ジャズ上達の最短ルートです。Practice connecting chord tones smoothly through the fundamental II–V–I progression (Dm7→G7→CΔ7). From Dm7's chord tones (D, F, A, C) to G7's (G, B, D, F), simply choosing a half-step or whole-step move at the chord change naturally produces a jazz-sounding line. This practice builds the foundation for guide tone lines and advanced tension use. The key isn't that scales are useless — it's reordering priorities so chord tones always come first.
